3.9.1 Upgrade Water Supply - Project Details:Description: Our current water supply reticulation system has been in place since 1948. Pipes are rusted and leaking with a subsequent health risk of cross pollution from septic tank outfalls etc. After many submissions to government, the establishment of an officials group in Wellington tasked to look at the issues of Minginui and a report on the village, hope came in the form of a Ministry of Health Community Water Supply Programme run by Nick Hewitt. (He visited Minginui many years ago when on an exercise with the army and was shielded by local people) This started with community workshops in March 2003 from which we will develop the skills and expect to meet the requirements for securing funding. This is a self help program to which we will contribute local energy and resources. In 2007 our Minginui Village Council arranged a community training program and submitted our funding application. On closing down of the Village Council this project has been taken over by the Te Whaiti Nui-a-Toi Trust. Our community is putting in some swet equity that is of a great help to the contractor who has to haul long lengths of pipe under driveways and other obstructions.
